587km today, going more or less due east from Innamincka most of the day. In the beginning it was all like this.
We turned off briefly to visit the Dig tree, which is on the Cooper Creek around 70km east of Innamincka. It's fairly well signed and explained. The actual tree is pictured below. It's hard to make out, but at the top was once a B (for Burke) and below that LXV, for camp 65. There's some complicated reason that this is written on a tree known to have 'Dig' written on it.
Eventually there was patchy scrub, mostly in the depressions. We saw lots of central bearded dragons basking in the road, birds I haven't identified, some emus and chicks, cattle, wild pigs and goats.
Eventually we reached Thargamindah. Which had extra wide streets and seemed almost deserted - the AFL grand final was on, but I don't know if this explains it in Queensland. So we pressed on to Cunnamulla and got here about 5pm. It's pretty small, with a couple of hotels, a handful of shops, surprisingly a thermal hot spring complex on the bank of the Warrego river.
Also a water silo.
